For some forty years bringing back to life or even taking part in the longest and toughest powerboat race in the world, the 2,700 mile London to Monte-Carlo Powerboat Race which ran in 1972, has been the dream and the ambition of many racers.
That dream is coming to fruition, slowly and surely, and although it won’t be the London to Monte-Carlo it will still be, at 2,400 miles, the longest and toughest powerboat race in the world. This time round it will be run out of Cowes and is now called the UIM Cowes to Monte-Carlo World Cup Grand Prix 2013.
The UIM Cowes to Monte-Carlo World Cup Grand Prix will start at 09.30 on Saturday 8th June in 2013 off the Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in the U.K. The Race Fleet of some fifty (50) high speed long range powerboats, some of the very best in the world, will head West down the Solent and turn at the Needles heading for France 231 nautical miles away. The race will last in total for fifteen (15) days visiting eleven (11) Cities starting at Brest and then Sable d’Olonne in France, Santander and Sada a Coruna in Northern Spain, then onto Cascais and Portimao in Portugal, then on down through the Straights of Gibraltar to Benalmadena, Alicante and Barcelona in southern Spain, onto Port Camargue in southern France and then onto the final dash for the finish along the famous Cote D’Azur to Monte Carlo and Monaco.
When this great race has finished it will have completed a dream and ambition for everyone involved. It won’t be the last!
